Container technology is very popular in computer science and software development. In this context, containers are standard software units that combine the program code and all its dependencies so that the desired application can be executed quickly and reliably in another computer environment, even under different operating systems (Linux, Windows, MacOS). Since its debut in 2013, Docker Inc. has accelerated the development and spread of this technology using its popular open-source container runtime environment called Docker Engine. Running containers on the Docker Engine requires an image that contains everything required to run an application: the program code, the runtime environment, tools, libraries, and settings. This means they can be easily transported and installed as files. [Docker Hub](https://hub.docker.com/) is the world’s largest repository for such container images. [Docker Inc.](http://docker.com/) also offers Docker Desktop, which developers can use to create, run, and share their containerized local development applications. [Docker Desktop](https://www.docker.com/products/docker-desktop/) can be used to create images of software applications, run and manage containers and much more. The Container Engine App makes it possible to isolate Docker images on the ctrX OS-based controller as containers and run them autonomously. The Firewall App uses the Nftables firewall technology. The Firewall App can be used to individually restrict communication between the controller (device) and network(s). This protects the computer against unauthorized access by third parties using viruses and Trojans. The Firewall App uses the Nftables firewall technology. Nftables uses tables (IP, IP6, Inet), chains (input, output, forward) and rules that are also hierarchy levels. The tables contain chains that contain the actual firewall rules. The app offers a graphical user interface for the Nftables functionality. This allows you to easily create, edit and manage rules for filtering network traffic/packets. The Firewall App offers Network Address Translation (NAT). NAT makes it possible to replace the destination or source IP address of a data packet with another address in the data packet. Both target and source NAT are supported. With Source NAT of the Firewall App, multiple devices (IP addresses) of the machine from the machine network can communicate with the production network via the ctrlX OS-based CORE Controller with a single IP address (masquerading), which has security advantages. IIoT Libraries SL, the Perfect Package for IIoT Communication The IIoT Libraries product contains numerous libraries for supporting various communication protocols, e.g. MQTT and HTTPS, and includes tools for coding and decoding data structures, such as JSON and XML. In addition, libraries with POUs are provided for direct communication with cloud services of individual providers (AWS, Azure, etc.).The components included in the CODESYS package are ideal for communication in the IIoT environment. Libraries for Communication Web ClientThe CODESYS software package contains a library of function blocks for communication with a Webserver via HTTP or HTTPS:The GET HTTP method requests data from a Webserver.The HTTP methods POST and PUT transmit data from the controller to a Webserver.With DELETE, data is deleted from a Webserver.The HTTP method HEAD returns the HTTP header.The HTTP header of a request can be extended without restrictions.
